An individual who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated materials including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.
She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
